Nintendo Switch owners are running out of time to claim a game completely free of charge.
Nintendo Switch owners have the chance to add a free game to their digital libraries, but they have to act fast. When it comes to free game giveaways, the vast majority are relegated to the PC. "Free" games on consoles almost always require subscriptions to services like PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass. Similarly, Nintendo Switch owners can access a large library of Nintendo Classics with a Switch Online membership, but free games to keep are virtually nonexistent.
It's extremely rare for Nintendo Switch owners to be treated to free games, but it's not unheard of. During the holiday season, some companies give away free games to help promote other titles, but that's about it. That's why it's always an exciting time whenever a game is indeed given away for free on the Switch, and so fans shouldn't pass the opportunity by.
Right now, Soft Drift is free on the Switch eShop. The game usually costs $3.05, so it's not huge savings, but you can't beat free. Soft Drift is a car drifting game with 21 levels to complete. It was developed by Frany Games, whose other titles are also heavily discounted at the time of this writing, but not 100% off like Soft Drift. The catch is that Soft Drift is only free until 1:00am CST on November 9. Needless to say, anyone interested should be sure to claim it right away.
Soft Drift is a Switch 1 game, but thanks to the fact that the Switch 2 is backward compatible with the original console, it's something Switch 2 owners can claim as well. The Nintendo Switch 2 can play almost every Switch 1 game, including the vast majority of eShop titles, so anyone with the new console interested in checking out Soft Drift should be sure to snag it while it's still free.
If you happen to miss out on Soft Drift being free on Switch, the good news is that it shouldn't be too much longer for more free games to hit the platform. No Gravity Games traditionally gives away free Switch games as part of its annual "Switchmas" giveaway, and unless plans change, it's likely that will be the case this year, too. The No Gravity Games giveaways tend to start in early December, so more free Switch games should be here in about a month or so. It's possible there will be other free Switch games up for grabs as well, so fans should keep an eye out.
