Dataminers poring over the files in GTA Online discover recently-added items that appear to have come from Grand Theft Auto 6.
GTA Online dataminers believe they've discovered assets that were ported over from Grand Theft Auto 6. Though GTA 6 isn't out yet, the game is still being actively developed alongside content updates being made to GTA Online.
Expectant GTA fans everywhere were disappointed when it was announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 is being delayed yet again. Rockstar and Take-Two have stated that the extra time is needed to ensure that the game has the level of polish that players have come to expect, but with an expected gap of 13 years between GTA 5 and GTA 6, fans are understandably tired of waiting. However, Rockstar has continued to update GTA Online with new missions, items, and soon new mansions to purchase, and it seems that there are some shared assets between the two games.
A pair of GTA Online dataminers have discovered some assets in the game connected to the Money Fronts update that may have been backwards ported to the game from GTA 6. Initially shared by rollschuh2282, the detail was highlighted by fellow dataminer Lucas7yoshi_RS. The assets are a set of clothing that appear in the laundry during the second mission of the DLC. Specifically, the items consist of a pair of heart boxer shorts, a green bikini top, and a pair of jeans. The files' textures, and the way that they're set up, have lent credence to the idea that they're from GTA 6.
Specifically, the naming convention of the files line up with the current system that Rockstar has been using since Red Dead Redemption 2. The dataminers indicate that Red Dead Redemption 2 uses a character system called "metapeds," with a file naming scheme to match, and it's also thought to be utilized in GTA 6. The new assets have file names akin to those, rather than the ones originally built for GTA 5. Additionally, Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 6 use a PBR (physically based rendering) texture system, unlike GTA 5, which the files are designed for.
Though it's not guaranteed that these particular items come from GTA 6, they also aren't the first that dataminers suspect are from the game. Previously, fans and players pointed to a bandana in GTA Online that strongly resembles the ones that Jason and Lucia wear in GTA 6. In a different discovery, a necklace worn by Cal Hampton, a new GTA 6 character, can be purchased in GTA Online. With a year left until GTA 6 releases, players may end up finding more evidence of its assets in GTA Online during that time.
